The Chronicles of Mathilde; Chapter 1: the enchanted forest

As good and well educated French girls, we were having a nice Sunday walk after a good meal and under a dazzling sun. Athénaïs and I were wearing the perfect equipment to keep us away from the cold: hat, hot sweaters, gloves etc. The snow, fallen yesterday, was reaching our thighs and it was quite sporty to walk with such a layer of powder snow. (Healthy body in an healthy mind ;-)

Their tracks made little holes in the powder snow so we could follow the trails quite easily. The surroundings were fascinating. The snow formed a garland around tree trucks. As we didn’t want to get lost, going straight on appeared as the best idea

After 15 minutes walk; standing in the middle of the silent wood. We saw him. Rushing towards us. Black. Fast. He had a strange, but funny, fur. His hairs were curly because of the snow. How long had he been there? Was he hungry?

As he was coming closer and closer, the beast appeared to be a friendly dog. We supposed that he was looking for some tenderness. Suddenly he started running looking behind him as if he was expecting us to follow him. That what we did. Following a dog we don’t know in an unknown forest is a perfect rational thing. Branches were slapping our faces while we were trying not to lose him

On the way we notice some land marks, red ribbon attached on the trees and an arche. We were entering in their territory… We lost the dog but kept on walking pushed by curiosity. Everything was quiet and desert. In some places, trees had been burnt.

We finally found it: the village of…Lilliputians! ("hey what did you expect ?" Nicole Kidman) The dog was their keeper. After taking some pictures of houses, eating lilliputian food (some meatballs, strange isn't it?) and visiting their home (do not enter with shoes: another culture) we got back to the road and went home with frozen feet. You won’t see any picture of Lilliputians. Only those who get lost could see them…
